Audio scripts for the course “Our Wonderful Life”

Unit 2

Oh, Julia, can you imagine, I was on a meeting. I usually work on Mondays. Sometimes these things happen. And people go to work to earn money.
Oh yes. My date. Yesterday.
That handsome guy is Max. We met when you forgot about our skating. He is a dentist from Moscow. Came for his medical studies. We drank coffee together and decided to go to some unusual place in St. Petersburg. Nothing serious like museums or art exhibitions, no theater or cinema. But something special and exciting. So Max invited me to an art party. I've never heard about anything like this. Probably neither have you.
We came there and it turned out to be a painting party. You have to paint a picture but use no brushes. They just don't give them to you. Only colors! That was really so strange! There were lots of people, probably 20 or 24 Food and drinks and all that stuff. Nice administrators and a very funny presenter who helped us to make our masterpiece. Well, it's quite difficult to name it as a masterpiece but we were doing our best to paint this picture using only colors! Max turned out to have a nice sense of humor telling funny jokes all the time. And he's a nice companion for going out. We had great time together. Would like to repeat this experience.
By the way I'm leaving for Helsinki tomorrow. Another business trip for 2 weeks. Join me at the weekend if you want. Jump into Allegro and I meet you at the station. My Spanish neighbor Marco is going to have an Italian party with his colleagues. He invited me for his pasta party. But I guess all these journalists are just bored by long Saturday evenings and their routine talks.

Unit 4

Marco, hi. I came back 3 days ago but I can't catch you. Are you working so hard these days? I'm in my project at work till night. Yet I'd like to see you on Saturday. My sister Julia (do you remember her?) arrives from St. Petersburg as well. We are joining you at your Italian party. I've already gone for jogging to our favorite park. Helsinki is so beautiful and calm now, almost no tourists. I haven't been here since January and now I see how I missed it....
By the way, can we go to Porvoo on Sunday together? It'd be great if you could do a welcome tour around this pretty town. My sister Julia has never been to Porvoo. I want to show her all these nice houses with colorful roofs, buy their famous hand-made chocolate, drink hot chocolate on a terrace and just enjoy the atmosphere of this cozy Finnish old town. When did we go there last time?... I guess it was last summer.... Some kind of a music festival going there. Your performance was fantastic!
Please, play the guitar on Saturday and sing all your songs! Oh yes, I'm staying for 3 weeks at least, my boss has just informed me. So, join me during my morning workout - I spend so much time sitting in the office. I'm really hungry for some sport and exercise!

Unit 6

Julia, hi. You're offline. I couldn't but share with you... Max is coming back to Moscow. And I'm really upset!.... I knew it would happen but... Now I understand I'm going to miss him so much!... We're living in different cities, having different friends. The distance is too long... That seems to be so strange... I doubt we can have relations... I'm always on my business trips being absent for at least 6 months a year. Now I'm involved in a new project for France - an international team of experts from all over the world. Maybe I'll have to move to France... If I leave St. Petersburg, I won't see Max... It's just my emotions right now but you're my best friend to share and to talk about it. Should I tell him? Should I keep calm and just take it easy? I really need your advice!

Unit 8

Julia, hi! Just came back from Moscow. Went to visit Max. 3 wonderful days. Full of romantic events and adventures.
We went for a walk a lot. Max invited me to the most interesting places. Were on an excursion in the metro, after that there was an underground museum. You know some kind of a town with tunnels. Being an engineer, I was surprised by some facts of underground construction and all that stuff. Our guide was a really devoted person!
But not everything was so nice. The first night our neighbors were playing the guitar for 2 hours! Singing songs and giving a performance. After that they were having a dancing competition! At midnight! Rather creative people who love art. Finally, the police came and took them to the office.
The second night wasn't much better. A dog was barking from another flat. It was such a shame!... A poor thing being alone at home and waiting for its owners who weren't going to come back home that night.... They've got into a car accident and now they're in a hospital. The next day on Sunday we called the police again and found out that our neighbors were in a hospital. So Max took the dog and now this pretty thing is going to live with Max the next 10 days. I've never thought neighbors can mean so much in a life!
